“Perfectly imperfect, interesting and beautiful - everything we should strive to be - love my burr elm heart handcrafted by @mjawood and everything it stands for ❤️ - Thanks Mark “
Inspiration maker story- I'm Mark Austin a chartered builder and civil engineer with over 25 yrs experience in large construction projects and innovation. I am also an woodworking fanatic, artist, toy and model maker. Living in the South East of England.
Family history - I have a long family history in art and craft (detailed below), making toys for my children and innovative design as well as woodturning and sculpture. After hours spent watching my grandfather Capt I.M.Austin a gifted model maker and my grandmother Margaret Austin a local water colour artist in their workshops and studio, I developed their passion for art and craft which I share with my family whenever I can.
Making toys for my children - Using this pedigree and knowledge these foundations helped to shape and inspire me to make inspirational hierloom toys. It all started with a rocking horse I made for my eldest daughter called "Speedy" followed by space rockets, marionettes / puzzles (for school projects), go carts and fire engines amongst others.
Innovative design in woodturning and sculpture - In 2015 I launched my website to showcase r my woodturning, wood sculpture and art MJA-WOOD. In 2016 I opened my Etsy store and in 2017 started my journey into social media where we have grown the MJA-WOOD brand to over 1000 followers on Instagram and Twitter.
Products can be made to order or purchased through our shop or our Etsy shop. Please do follow and support us on our journey as we move from hobby to a sustainable business on facebook, twitter and Instagram and Pinterest on the links at the bottom of the page
"We are delighted with the burr oak candle bridge. The rich dark colours and oriental style bridge complement our chinese redwood dining table. The combination is stunning. Louise Cornwall."
